As I write this, I am also speaking to myself as these are lessons I am still learning and actions I am still applying. We are on this journey collectively!
To find peace and balance, prioritizing self-care is critical. It can be as simple as setting aside time each day for ourselves, whether it’s before work or after work, we must find the time for ourselves. If you find your joy by reading a book, preparing a meal for yourself, moving your body, or even having a therapy session - do that. We’ve got to allow ourselves to disconnect from the outside world and connect with ourselves.
Something that I have struggled with in the past and actively working on is setting boundaries. Specifically learning to say no when we feel overwhelmed or overextended. We can't be there for our families if we're not taking care of ourselves. It's okay to take a step back and focus on our own needs, and if you are working with a good family, I promise you that they will understand.
We can also find balance by setting realistic expectations for ourselves. It's easy to get caught up in trying to do everything and be everything to everyone. But it's okay to acknowledge that we're only human and we can only do so much. We need to give ourselves permission to let go of the guilt and focus on what's truly important.
Finally, we need to remember that finding balance is an ongoing process. it requires consistent effort and self-reflection. We need to be patient with ourselves and celebrate our small victories along the way!
So let’s recap: Finding balance while supporting our families is essential for our well-being. It's a delicate balancing act that requires us to prioritize self-care, set boundaries, and set realistic expectations for ourselves. Remember, self-love isn’t selfish- it's necessary.
Now, what are we doing this week to give ourselves the love and care we deserve?
